Billing

Your hospital bill will include a room charge, covering room, meals, nursing care, housekeeping, maintenance, medical records and admitting services. Your bill will also include itemized charges for specific ancillary services, including:

  • Laboratory
  • Medications
  • X-rays
  • Use of the operating room
  • Surgical day care
  • Recovery room
  • Physical therapy

Your bill will not include visits by your physician and fees for services*, including:

  • Radiology (interpretation of X-rays)
  • Anesthesiology
  • Emergency medicine
  • Surgery
  • Other professional services and consultations provided by physicians

*These will be billed separately by the physician.

Morton Hospital offers a free, convenient option for managing your hospital account and paying your bills online. With our easy-to-use system, you can review your account and payment history, set up a payment schedule, make a one-time payment or view statements. To access your account, refer to the 12 digit alphanumeric account number on your statement.

What Do I Need to Do?

  1. Update your contact information (address and phone number) with MassHealth and report and household changes.
    • Online: www.mahix.org
    • Call MassHealth at 800-841-2900 or visit your local MassHealth office.
    • Visit Morton Hospital for assistance from a Medicaid representative.
  2. Look out for instructions on your renewal including your renewal date.
    • You will receive your renewal in a blue envelope from MassHealth.
    • If you opted out for paperless, an electronic notice will be sent via text or email, or you can log into your account at www.mahix.org.
    • Follow instructions for your renewal and make sure to complete and submit any requested information in a timely manner.
    • You may visit Morton Hospital for assistance from a Medicaid representative.  

What If I Am Ineligible for Medicaid

Options for Healthcare in Massachusetts

If you are ineligible for Medicaid, options for healthcare in Massachusetts include:

  • MA CHIP - Eligible children under 19 (combined with Medicaid through the MassHealth program). Visit www.mahix.org.
  • Commercial coverage - Coverage via your employer or privately obtained.
  • Federally qualified health centers - Services offered on a sliding scale based on income for those with limited or no health coverage. Visit data.hrsa.gov.  
  • Federally subsidized marketplace health programs
    • Visit www.mahealthconnector.org, call 800-623-7773, or visit Morton Hospital for assistance from a certified application counselor.
    • Monthly premium coverage plans are based on your age, zip code, income, and household size.
    • You may enroll in a marketplace plan up to 60 days prior to the Medicaid coverage term date.
