The interventional radiology (IR) division of the department of diagnostic imaging performs specialized procedures using image guidance to diagnose and treat specific diseases. IR focuses on minimally invasive techniques and surgery-sparing procedures to decrease risk and recovery time.
The range of diseases and organs amenable to image-guided therapeutic and diagnostic procedures are extensive and constantly evolving. IR physicians provide patient evaluation and management relevant to image-guided interventions in collaboration with other physicians. IR procedures have become an integral part of medical care.

Interventional radiology has a number of benefits for patients. Utilizing an imaging technique allows for accurate diagnosis and treatment using cutting-edge equipment (fluoroscopy, cat scan, ultrasound, mammography, magnetic resonance).
Minimally invasive procedures are performed through a small nick in the skin, minimizing the patient’s discomfort and recovery time. In addition, the techniques can be used for very sick patients who are unfit for surgery.
