Cardiovascular Research Center at Rhode Island Hospital

At Rhode Island Hospital, the Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) was founded in 2005 in affiliation with The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. The CVRC focuses its research on the molecular mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias, sudden cardiac arrest, hypertrophy (heart enlargement) and heart failure. Pursuing myriad research models—from hormone therapy to the role of fibroblasts and the effects of aging—our researchers work daily to find ways to prevent death from sudden cardiac arrest.

Current projects

Analyzing when and why someone might die of ventricular arrhythmia as well as the voltage-gated potassium channels in the heart.
Investigating how changes in signal transmission from cells outside the heart to inside the heart affect cardiac growth and contraction and how they contribute to cardiac disease, such as hypertrophy and heart failure.
