Paulo Renato Pina, MD, MPH

Pediatrician

Paulo Pina, MD, MPH, is a pediatrician at Hasbro Children’s Hospital and division director of ambulatory and community medicine at Rhode Island Hospital.

Prior to his work in Rhode Island, Dr. Pina was pediatric network medical director of Family Health Centers at NYU Langone-Brooklyn and served as a clinical associate professor in the department of pediatrics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He has held academic positions with Albert Einstein College of Medicine and CUNY School of Medicine.

Dr. Pina had a years-long affiliation with St. Barnabas Hospital in New York, serving as president and vice-president of its medical board, associate director and program director of its pediatric residency program, and held leadership positions including associate chairman of its department of pediatrics. 

Dr. Pina obtained a medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and a master of public health degree in community health sciences from State University of New York at Downstate. He completed his residency in pediatrics at NYU/Bellevue Hospital Center-New York where he was chief resident. 

His scholarly and advocacy activities have focused on improving pediatric care quality, addressing the social determinants of health during medical visits, increasing vaccination rates, PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) use among adolescents, and health equity.
