Search results will first present, in alphabetical order, physicians employed or contracted with Brown University Health or its affiliates, followed by an alphabetical listing of physicians who are in Brown University Health’s network of affiliated providers. At the end of that initial list, you can access an alphabetical listing of community physicians with privileges at Brown University Health hospitals. All physicians in Find a Doctor have the opportunity to have a picture or video posted on the site. Neither the order of physicians, nor the presence or absence of a photo or video, in Find a Doctor is intended to reflect any preference, priority, or recommendation by Brown University Health. Find a Doctor search results are also not based on the volume or value of referrals to Brown University Health or its affiliates from any listed physician. Users are free to select their physician of choice from among all Brown University Health-affiliated medical staff physicians.

Paul Akerman, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and a clinical assistant professor of medicine and surgery at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. After earning a medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine, he completed a residency in internal medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Akerman completed fellowships in gastroenterology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, nutrition and metabolism at New England Deaconess Hospital, and therapeutic endoscopy at Wellesley Hospital in Toronto. His clinical interests include endoscopic oncology, therapeutic endoscopy, Zenker’s diverticulum management, anastomotic reduction after gastric bypass, and removal of large colonic polyps.
