Ghada Bourjeily, MD, FCCP

Director of Women’s Health Research

Ghada Bourjeily, MD, is director of women's health research at Brown University Health and an attending physician in pulmonary medicine at the Center for Advanced Lung Care. A professor of medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a professor of Health Services, Policy, and Practice at the School of Public Health, Dr. Bourjeily trained in pulmonary, critical care and sleep at Case Western Reserve University and Yale University.

Dr. Bourjeily is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, past chair of the Women’s Health Network steering committee of the American College of Chest Physicians, past president for the North American Society of Obstetric Medicine and serves on various national and international professional societies' committees. She co-chairs the guidelines committees on OSA in pregnancy for Chest and the Society of Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Bourjeily's expertise is in lung disease and sleep disordered breathing in the perinatal period, from pre-conception, to pregnancy and the inter-pregnancy period.

Research

Dr. Bourjeily’s research focuses on improving the diagnosis and the prediction of sleep disordered breathing in women and particularly in pregnant people, and the impact of these conditions on pregnancy and neonatal outcomes, including cardiovascular and metabolic outcomes during pregnancy. She also aims to understand how treatment for sleep conditions would need to be customized to meet the needs of pregnant and postpartum individuals.  Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Chest Foundation, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation and others. She regularly lectures nationally and internationally on these topics. She is currently the site PI for the ISCORE grant, aimed at improving clinical trials in the state of RI.
