Program Manager and Clinical Supervisor

Mary Jane Pizza, MSW, LICSW, LCDP, LCDCS is the program manager and clinical supervisor of the Rhode Island Hospital inpatient addiction medicine consultation service.

Pizza supports the department’s fellowship and residency programs and collaborates with various medical teams to provide comprehensive care for patients with substance use disorders. As a hospital liaison to community agencies that offer substance use treatment, she provides patients with easier transition to their services and is often invited to speak to agency staff about the latest treatments and trends for substance use disorders.

With a substantial background in mental health and substance use treatment, she has been a psychotherapist in private practice. She was a clinician at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut and at Kent County Mental Health Center in Rhode Island. She worked as a DWI intake evaluator through the Community College of Rhode Island, and as a field education supervisor for both Rhode Island College and Boston University. Earlier in her career, she worked extensively as a counselor at several treatment centers.

She earned a master of social work degree from Boston University and is a licensed independent clinical social worker, a licensed chemical dependency provider, and a licensed chemical dependency clinical supervisor.

A frequent guest speaker and presenter on addiction and substance use disorders at colleges, conferences, and panels, Pizza is a teaching associate in psychiatry and human behavior at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
