Mahesh V. Jayaraman M.D. F.A.C.R.

 

PROVIDENCE – Mahesh V. Jayaraman, MD, director of the Neurovascular Center at Rhode Island Hospital, has been named chief of diagnostic imaging at Lifespan, effective January 1, 2024. He will also be chair of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and the Elfriede Collis-Frances Weeden Gibson Professor of Diagnostic Imaging.

 

Jayaraman is widely recognized as a pioneering neurointerventional radiologist.  Under his direction, the Neurovascular Center at Rhode Island Hospital has gained international acclaim for providing cutting edge care for patients with cerebrovascular disease.  His research showing that quicker access to mechanical thrombectomy for patients with large vessel occlusion results in better outcomes has influenced changes in stroke systems of care throughout New England and the nation.

 

As Lifespan’s chief of diagnostic imaging, Jayaraman will spearhead the implementation of novel technologies aimed at improving patient care and expanding research in the areas of human factors research and population imaging, further solidifying Lifespan's commitment to advancing medical knowledge and improving healthcare outcomes.

Jayaraman is the president of the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery, a senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology, and a fellow of the American College of Radiology.  He completed the residency program in Diagnostic Radiology at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University, where he was chief resident, and fellowships in both Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology at Stanford University.
